THE present wfh is not a new normal

INTRODUCTION
Since March 2020 many employees have been working from home(WFH). This was an enforced WFH due to Covid-19 Infection. Since March work from home have been a much talked about topic. It has been claimed to be new normal.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Let's set the record straight. Work from home is not a new concept. For years, businesses have been toying with the implementation of WFH. Some organizations have been successful in implementing the concept but for many others either they do not see the benefit of WFH or not entirely sure how to manage the new norm. . But, as we all know Covid-19 made WFH happened.

ENFORCED WFH IS NOT WFH
What many of us went through is not real WFH. We were trapped in our house due to mandatory lock down (MCO) and told to get work done. We are confined. within the four walls of our home, mingling with the same people day in and out. As the spouses and kids are also at home, we are also expected to do regular house chores. A very likelihood of increase in stress.

NEW NORM
As countries start rolling back the MCO, some businesses have decided to adopt WFH, the way work is done will be different from what it was. The actual WFH will enable us to work from anywhere convenient to us. It maybe at #starbuck or local restaurant with good Wi-Fi connectivity. We may be able to do work with our colleagues by ensuring Covid-19 SOP is followed. Or head to the gym at the time of our convenience. This is what I will call as new norm for WFH. In-fact the correct term for this should be Remote Working. As remote working does not confine you to a single place of work.

REMOTE WORK
We expect people to enjoy remote work, as it will address a number of concerns with WFH during the MCO. However they are a number of issues that need to be overcome. One is using technology. It is going to be a steep learning curve for many as usage of technology will become a necessity.

SUMMARY
In summary, many employees are going to start a new work at home concept, which can be fun and meaningful if our days are planned well.
