Picture

INTRODUCTION

In part 4& 5, we have discussed about how to define a problem and how to set target. In defining a problem, some tools are used to gather data and analyse, that will give an indication of the nature of existing problem.
We will discuss some of the tools used in this next few part to have an understanding on the tools and how to use it.
CHECK SHEET
A check sheet is a structured, prepared form for collecting and analysing data. Check sheet is one of tool clustered together in 7QC tools.
Check sheet ensures that data is collected carefully and systematically and accurately for process control and problem-solving purpose. The data collected will provide a snapshot of the process being studied and revel underlying patterns including the frequency of an event, activity, or issues.
WHEN TO USE A CHECK SHEET
  • When collecting data on the frequency or pattern of events, problems, defects, defect locations or similar issues.
Check sheet results are frequently turned into Pareto Chart.

HOW TO ESTABLISH A CHECK SHEET
1.   Decide what event or problem will be observed. Develop operational definitions.
2.   Decide when data will be collected and for how long.
3.   Design the form. Set it up so that data can be recorded simply by making check marks or X's or similar symbols and so that data do not have to be recopied for analysis.
4.   Label all spaces on the form.
5.   Test the check sheet for a short trial period to be sure it collects the appropriate data and is easy to use.
6.  Each time the targeted event or problem occurs, record data on the check sheet.
